
Basic Requirements: To join, you must generally be between the ages of 17 and 35, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and meet specific medical, moral, and physical standards. (Applicants who are 17 require parental consent.)
Time Commitment: The standard Guard commitment is "one weekend a month, two weeks a year." This allows you to maintain your civilian career, education, and family life while serving your country. Contracts typically range from three to six years.
Training: Your journey begins with paid training. All new, non-prior-service members attend Initial Entry Training (Basic Combat Training) to learn fundamental soldiering skills, followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT) to learn the specifics of your chosen Guard career
